Dreaming of a White Columbus Day

We're supposed to get snow flurries tonight. Nothing major, of course, and no accumulation, but interesting none the less.

It made me think back to my fondest wish as a kid - and as a kid at heart. Wishing for a White Christmas.

I mentioned this to one of The Girls last night at The Restaurant, and she looked at me as only an Aroostook County native could on this subject. She took her time, then said "I don't understand".

And of course she wouldn't. Downstate in Portland you might not be guaranteed a White Christmas, but up here its not even a question. Its more a question of how much.

This is new to me. I grew up in Seattle, where snowfall is something of an event - and I remember a grand total of 1 White Christmas in my life before moving to Maine.

And I have to admit, as much as I know its early and just a flurry coming tonight, that feeling of excitement that I had when I saw my first snowfall at the age of 7 is still in me these many years later.

Okay I won't complain about the hard freeze we're getting overnight. Last epic snowfall we had around here I had the rock band marooned at our house for days...

Frog - I have a marooned in the snow story from the big Washington, DC snowstorm of 2003 to share sometime, too. Being snowed in can either be fun or be a nightmare depending on your marooned in with mates.

When I lived in NC, I was so excited when it would snow, I'd be outside in a flash, much to the amusement of my neighbors. And even though I live in South Dakota now? I'm still the same way. I'm that five year old, sitting in Kindergarten, fascinated with the flakes coming down. And it's the same in February as it is in October for me. Sigh. We are to get two inches tonight. And I'm so excited!

Snow is good; cold is bad. Ya can't have a warm white Christmas!

Kate - Being a kid at heart is almost always a good thing. Enjoy!

YOY - Cold is fine as long as its outside and I'm inside.
